I tried various laptop cooling pads and none of them cooled my MacBook Pro 15" because the fan wasn't where it gets hot, it was on the left side. It didn't have vent holes in this one area, so they were useless. This option is perfect. The 15" MacBook Pro fits snugly in the space between the solid surfaces on the sides. In other words, it sits above the mesh area. I could have placed fans along the top. Only downside was that it was very uncomfortable to sit with it on your lap. And you could lose the airspace underneath him that you need if he were on his feet. In addition, the metal edge on the back hit the knees - very uncomfortable. If I hadn't tried other cooling pads I'd probably pack them up again right now to be around for now But I figured all he needs is something to sit on, th o a flat surface, no pillow. Not finding a book big enough, I kept looking around the house and voila! There was a baking sheet in the dishwasher, LOL! A standard-sized baking sheet is perfect for lining. However, this chiller is sooooo quiet - actually silent. BUT I can't believe how well it cools the bottom of my MacBook Pro. I run it like crazy, it has 16GB of RAM and I use it so heavily it can get slower and very hot. With this cooling mat, with the fans under the right place on my Mac and thus on a baking sheet, it's like a miracle. The laptop just gets warm. I have no idea what the temperature difference is, but it's the difference between a bathtub that's too hot to go in and warm water. Wonderful. The laptop slips a little. It's fine, but if you take it off your knees to put it somewhere while you're getting up, be careful as it can slip off. So you don't lose your USB ports with this cooling pad. Definitely a must. Just note that this cooling pad is large. BUT for a 15 inch laptop, the center grille is the right size for the grille to sit under the entire laptop. Grab a baking sheet (or maybe cover your board with something more comfortable?) and you'll love this cooling mat. Attaching the fans was very easy.
