As much as I love this item, I shaved off the star because I had to drill my own hole and find something to make a loop for it. (I chose red yarn and it looks really cute!). When the drilling was done the hole on the other side was a little torn and I had to sand it a little to smooth it out. I'm no expert on using the drill, so this could very well be user error on my part, but it's kind of a disappointment that I had to do anything with it at all (first world problems, am I right?). However, I have to admit that after said sanding I took the color off a bit, but it's still red, so that's important. So, now to the review! (After a brief backstory, of course.) I bought this for myself because my back hurts bending over for long periods of time and I needed a broom to use on the landing at the bottom of the stairs. I had a small brush and dustpan hanging from a hanger and they worked well, but it was too hard for me to bend down to sweep the floor and clean the grooves in the welcome carpet. The landing is probably big enough to have a regular sized broom in the corner but I hit my dog and the first time I went outside for three seconds he knocked him over and probably pinned the door against the stairs. - The ONLY entrance to my apartment. It will also get in the way if someone wants to hang their coat or umbrella, so I knew I didn't want that. Every day I would look at all this crap and think I really need to clean it up. but then I had an idea! What if I had a longer broom I could use AND hang up? And here we are. Whole thing aside (don't get me started again!), it's actually pretty perfect! The bristles are nice and stiff so it cleans the grooves in this rug MUCH better with MUCH less effort on my part! I wasn't sure it would work as well as a regular broom as it's made for kids but all the rave reviews convinced me to try it and I'm so glad I did! I checked out several types and loved the vintage feel of this style and the shape and material of the bristles to get those wicked matte ridges! Most of the others I looked at were basically just toys and cost more than this one! This is exactly the same as a regular size corn brush with STRONG reinforced bristle holders and a solid wood handle, only smaller. I think this type will serve me very well but for the price I don't care how long it lasts because I will just keep buying them even if I have to drill more holes! Highly recommended!
