The great depth of this pleated filter means low restriction and high dust removal capacity in a high flow air handling unit. The relatively loose material used allows these filters to capture large amounts of dust before they need to be replaced. On the other hand, the filter itself is not even labeled with its MERV rating, so the user needs to be aware of that, otherwise they might be tempted to buy a lower quality pleated filter. I've seen low MERV number 4 inch thick filters at my local hardware store, but the material was flimsy and would clog much sooner. User: Write the MERV number on the filter with the installation date.
