Review on Sleek And Dependable: Sternreiter Silver Double Bell Wind-Up Alarm Clock by Annie Thornton

Loud alarm, needs adjustment with seasonal changes

I've had this alarm clock for eight years, and it's been really great. I like a purely mechanical clock rather than relying on batteries or a wall socket. The spring seems like it would last for a little over two days on a full wind, but I wind it once per night out of habit and just to ensure it keeps going. I've had guests remark on the ticking being a little loud, so I must have long since gotten used to it because I don't notice. The alarm is loud enough that it probably reaches neighboring rooms and apartments, so consider that before buying. When the seasons change, the timing goes off a little; you'll have to adjust the dial on the back and check in after a few hours or so to see if it's right. With highly-accurate digital clocks in nearly every electronic device these days, I'm not worried about pinpoint accuracy in my bedside alarm clock. At worst, I'll check it against my phone and find that it's a minute or two off.

Pros
  • The clock face is easy to read, even from a distance
Cons
  • The clock can be difficult to set up and synchronize
