Looked like a cheap wooden box with a cheap black rubber spider that doesn't look very much like the real thing. I gave it to a friend who is very afraid of spiders as a birthday joke, but she failed to surprise her or scare the 'spider'. The slide mechanism is not spring loaded so a person can slowly open it like my friend did, so no "sudden surprises".
