The blade was dented or wavy. I've used it a few times and was able to 'massage' it with 2-3 showers to 'smooth' it and now it works great. The first downward stroke usually produces a loud screech. I have found that it reduces the tone significantly, if you wet the rubber first.A larger than expected rubber blade should have a lot of overlap so you need to make sure the blade stays wet to avoid noise.The handle is metal and looks well made. I had a hard time finding an oil bronze to match my new decor and this one definitely looks good.
