Others with springs don't stay in place. This one does. Does exactly what I need: allows me to adjust, then stay there and not slip down. Easily adjustable. The XLR cable really sucks. The jack (which plugs into your mic) shakes too much and can separate from the active mic, resulting in loud clicking noises. Not good. Replaced with a better one. If you don't want to unscrew and solder everything, just tie a new wire to it. Maybe just desolder and replace the XLR connector with a high-quality (fixed) connector? This allows you to keep the internal cable (which seemed fine) intact.
