The device was purchased to replace the iPhone SE. Not to say that compared to him, the eight has become a revolutionary new device, but there are definitely a number of improvements. Among the nice buns of this model, you can also note Bluetoch 5.0, support (not out of the box) for wireless and fast charging. A little more about the photo. If you shoot on applications that support saving in Raw format (DNG), you can get very decent photo quality during processing. However, not everyone wants to bother with a mobile photo, although I repeat, the result can be much better than stock jpeg. The front camera, of course, has significantly increased in megapixels compared to the SE, but this did not greatly affect the quality of the photo, except that the detail increased. On the whole, a worthy device, still somehow justifying its price, I can’t say the same about models with a “monobrow”. This is for sure the last iPhone in a classic look with a button, an adequate screen ratio of 16:9 and an IPS matrix, as well as a pleasant appearance with a beautiful back panel (in my case, the colors are "space gray"). "Large frames" do not bother me much, I did not even consider it a disadvantage, since ease of use and internal characteristics of the device are much more priority.
- - Performance. It is currently redundant, with a large margin for several years. But in this regard, the iPhone SE was more than enough for me. - Camera. There are more advantages to video recording. The parameters and video quality are still unattainable for any competitor - honest 4k 60 fps with optical and software stabilization (software stabilization, of course, works better in Full HD). This device is able to take photos at a very good level, but only in Raw format with subsequent processing. An important innovation of the model is the Slow Sync flash, thanks to which, at night, you can get high-quality photos without highlights of the subject and uniform illumination of the background. - Taptic Engine. Very useful vibration feedback. New sensations from using the device. When you call out after the classic SE vibration, not only is it harder to miss a call in your pocket, but also during vibration, when the phone is on the table, there is no nasty buzzing, there is almost no vibration sound at all. - 3D touch. A very convenient and underestimated technology by the company itself, because since its appearance in 2022, little has been sharpened for it. And according to rumors, soon Apple plans to abandon it altogether. - Touch "button", as a result of the interaction of the previous two points, with Touch ID of the second generation. The touch button was even more convenient than the physical one, and the almost instantaneous touch unlock after the iPhone SE also gives a pleasant experience. - Relative ergonomics and compactness. Not comparable to the convenience of the SE, but overall it is still possible to use the device with one hand and carry it in your pocket. - One of the best IPS matrices with an appropriate amount of DPI and, accordingly, a reasonable resolution without marketing large numbers in the screen resolution settings, resulting in less stress on hardware and battery. True Tone - at first I took the function of adjusting the white balance to the lighting negatively, but as soon as I turned it off in the room, I realized how good it was.
- - The main and only serious drawback is the quality of the camera jpeg. First of all, aggressive noise reduction is striking, turning a potentially good photo into a creepy watercolor. There is also an overestimated contour sharpness, frequent highlights, dips in the shadows, and bulging contrast. Faces are especially disgusting thanks to this "vinaigrette" of processing. Moreover, the matrix in the smartphone is quite top-level, as evidenced by the quality of the video, and especially the quality of photos taken in Raw format. But processing the stock camera application and any other that saves photos in jpeg (software processing algorithms do not depend on the application) simply kills the photo. Of course, any smartphone has certain jambs in processing - as a rule, this is primarily a "blurring" of noise, but such a nightmare as here, you still need to look. Therefore, any iPhone from the 2022 model range is categorically not suitable for those who want to purchase a photo flagship for the purpose of "pointing, shooting, getting results" - that is, the vast majority of people who purchase a smartphone as a mobile camera. If more than a photo for social networks, or viewing a photo on a smartphone screen is not required, then this quality may be enough. - The amount of RAM. Not to say that 2 GB on an ios device is not enough today, but it is not known how long, or rather, to what version of ios this situation will last. I believe that the manufacturer could install 3 GB in a 2022 model with such and such a level of performance. - No mini jack. Apple has set a disgusting trend. To date, there are no wireless headphones with decent sound quality. and the audio path of iPhones with this connector was quite good, especially with the use of a third-party soft player. - Support for front camera video recording at 30fps only. The manufacturer could have added the ability to record Full HD video at 60 frames per second, but only implemented this in 2022 models.
