These balls smell amazing and give laundry a detergent-like scent, but the smell lasts longer and is more noticeable. I don't use much on each load (front load washing machine), I just shake enough into the pink lid to almost cover the bottom in one layer. I only use detergent to do all our laundry and use these balls in almost every load. I found the smell doesn't seem to be as strong on sheets or towels, but gym clothes retain the smell. I really wish they were a little cheaper as it's one of my sinful indulgences that I'll probably have to forego if my husband ever finds out how much a bottle costs, but I wouldn't take a star for that - of course I'll keep buying Stuff no matter the price! BTW, my 11 year old son says the girls in his class always tell him he smells nice and sniff his clothes - I'm not sure if it's scented beads or crazy sixth graders.
