Purchased to record time-lapse videos. Haven't used it for this purpose yet, but I've put my phone in the holder - it holds it tight and won't fall out, although it's a bit difficult to find a spot that it's not leaning against. any buttons or obstruct the view. But I see it as a problem with the phone, not the tripod. With a little fiddling, I find a free seat. My stupid cat pushed it off the table where it was standing and it broke. The plastic piece around the gold-colored screw-in post is now cracked. But even with this problem, it still works great. I'll probably seal the crack with super glue and it will be like new (it's a hairline crack). Lesson learned: remove it when you're not actually using it.
