Review on Farberware 6-Piece Professional Mandoline Slicer Set, White and Green - includes Storage Case by Dawn Ohara

I liked a lot of things about the slicer, just didn't like a few things

Test: Farberware Professional Mandoline Slicer with Storage Case, 6-Piece, White and GreenI've been able to use the Farberware Madoline slicer a few times in the last week either way and in my use I've found a number of elements I like about the slicer and one element I didn't really like. "What I found with this product is the storage box itself. I think it's much more convenient to keep each individual piece together in a small box than to put the pieces in a drawer and then every time I need a specific one Cutting Blade wants to dig through the drawer. The second point I like is the overall size of the "block". The size of the blades, the size of the "food container", the handles on the various blades are almost exactly what I need for home use. I have larger slicers that aren't mandolins, but I've found that except in very special cases (e.g. for making very large zucchini) the carrots and potatoes I want to slice are small enough that this product accomplished its task. ready. And despite what I thought at first, I found the food container to be more than big enough to hold the amount of veggies I'd want to chop for what I consider a normal meal; That's a plus for me because while it wouldn't be a huge problem, I don't want to empty the bin until I'm done cutting. Blade wise I found I could very easily use a standard slicing blade and with a bit of effort I was able to benefit from Julian's large blade. Both blades produced exactly the kind of "slices" (thin) I need from this style of mandoline slicer. However, and this was an unexpected dislike for me, Julian's small blade required a lot more effort (meaning more effort to use). Move the carrot back and forth along the blade) than I thought. So much effort that I don't know, at least for me, whether I can do much with Julian's little blade. I haven't tried the "grater" blade yet, so I'm not sure how this particular blade will work. I like the little rubber pads on the bottom of the food container, they seem to help (at least what I consider a small help) to keep the food container from slipping while slicing. I'm also fine with the slider/pusher in the set; I think it offers some protection to my fingers as the number of veggies cut gets smaller. However, the size (height/capacity) of the slider/pusher combo seemed smaller than I thought. During my use I found that my fingers were still a little closer to the blades than I would have liked before the remaining veg was small enough to fit in the pusher/driver. And the "buttons" on the bottom of the pusher are plastic and I found that the "prongs/buttons" don't really stick into the veggies (I used both carrots and potatoes in my test), just enough , to stick firmly in the vegetable to the vegetable did not roll in the tube. For me, however, having a pusher/slider was a distinct advantage over a cutting blade, which didn't have a similar setting. Overall, I'm glad I have this product. I think I'll get a lot of use out of the standard slicing blade (which I think makes pretty thin slices) and the big Julian blade, while at the same time I see no point in using the small Julian edge. a lot of. And I think I'll definitely use the pusher/slider too. So for me, the big positives I've found in my testing outweigh the negatives I've found.
