My own fault - I bought another similar product which is still in perfect condition and has passed the test of many kittens jumping and sleeping on it. THIS product was $10 cheaper but looks almost identical - I should have known better. Although this product is very easy to assemble, when handling the parts you realize that they are very fragile. If I hadn't already had a frame of reference with another (similar) product that I had previously purchased, I might not have immediately questioned this one, but I gave it preference when in doubt. So, the moment I put it down for my (5 month old) KITTEN, my little one jumped in and the "stabilizing" part started hanging down the middle! On closer inspection, this piece is a thin piece of plastic wrapped in fabric. The plastic is too flimsy to support a kitten trying to lie on the top bunk. I will be returning all 4 I bought and buying the one that costs a little more. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY - learn this lesson!
