To get the most out of your total hardness strips / Michael Ford - Tip #1: STORAGE. Store the test strips in a cool, dry place at room temperature and away from heat sources. Tip #2: SELECT AND CLOSE. Simply remove enough strips from the bottle for testing and immediately close the bottle cap. This helps preserve and maintain high-quality strip reagents, and also ensures that no other strips are submerged in the water while you bend down and collect a sample. Tip #3: DIP AND RUN AT THE RIGHT TEMPERATURE. It only takes 1 or 2 seconds for the test pad to react with water. The best temperature for testing is 68-75Β°F. When testing water hardness, simply immerse the test strips in the hot tub for about 1-2 seconds. This is enough to get accurate readings. Leaving the strips in the water for too long can affect their accuracy. Tip #4: PUSH AND WAIT. After dipping and rotating the test strip, tap it on a paper towel to remove excess water. Wait 60 seconds and compare the color of the test strip to the color scale on the vial. Tip #5: CLOSER COLOR. The color of the test pad may not match the colors in the color chart exactly. In this case, choose the most similar color. Our color chart is shown in increments of 25, 70, 130, 175 mg/l. If the color does not match exactly, this indicates that the reading is between increments.
