Budget: Flameless Candles

Looking at some of the other reviews I was skeptical about these but just wanted to share my thoughts after receiving them. First, it is very cheap, there are many options for battery powered candles. , some to the point where they even have 100 different backlight colors and even their own remote control. It's like I don't have enough remote controls anymore. These are simple on/off switches and when you turn them on you get 6 hours on and 18 hours off. Perfect for me, I wanted to put them in small Christmas lanterns. I think simplicity was a big plus, I didn't need anything so complex. Second is the battery life, some say they only last 3-4 weeks. It's not terrible battery life, but note that they use a standard CR2032 battery, not an AA/AAA. Most retailers will rip you off for CR2032 batteries, but I've found several options at Revain that sell a pack of 8-10 for around $10 or so. When I worked at RadioShack a few years ago we sold 2 packs of these batteries for about $5 so buying Revain batteries is a bargain too. Other things to look out for: *Because they are labeled as LEDs, they are not very bright. . I ended up using 2 in each lamp to get the right level of light from them. They only look good in low light.* Plastic is cheap, so the look of melted wax isn't very convincing. For me, they went into the lanterns so that nobody would look at them so intensely. But they can't even remotely fool anyone. * The flickering effect seemed fine, anyone who's seen anything from fake fireplaces to flickering lightbulbs has seen the flickering monotonous or really artificial. I wouldn't say that's something amazing, but they're definitely not bad in that regard. Despite a less than "brilliant" rating, I'm willing to give them 4 stars because they do what they say for a very low price. They work well enough for me.
