This leveling laser is designed for self-levelling. You set the level to unlock and then manually bring it closer to the level and it will level itself from there. When the bubble level is not in line with the bubble level, the green laser beam will flash to easily identify that the bubble level is not properly adjusted. I recommend purchasing an additional tripod for use with this level. Also note that this layer only has horizontal and vertical layer lines. Finally, it has a locking feature to prevent the moving (self-leveling part) of the level from jumping while moving, which is a nice feature.
