I purchased this item to use as an adapter between an ethernet cable connected to a modem and my computer. My internet service wasn't working properly and a direct connection was the solution to this problem. I bought this adapter and to this day I never gave it a second thought when I almost switched internet providers as I couldn't figure out why my internet was still not working even though I was connected directly to the modem. It turned out that the problems had nothing to do with the internet, but that this adapter I bought was defective. How do I know it's an adapter? Well, I happened to have another Ethernet/USB adapter on hand that I bought from Best Buy (when I forgot it at home while traveling). Spring. Best Buy? He works like a champ. I will never buy this product again. And unfortunately, because I didn't understand what was going on with this faulty device, I went through the return window and lost the money I had spent.
