Review on IMKEY Apple Certified 6.5 Feet 30-Pin to USB Sync and Charging Cable - Gray for iPhone 4 / 4S, iPhone 3G / 3GS, iPad 1/2 / 3, iPod by Patrick Reid

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Stop looking, this is the best.

Definitely the best Apple 30-pin dock connector cable I've ever had. Possibly the best cable I've ever had, period. It's a toss-up between this and Anker's nylon-braided micro-USB cable. This cable. Well then, the Apple that was in your box seems a little inferior, and those crappy cables that Wal-Mart sells seem like complete junk. I seriously thought the ports on all my Apple devices 5+ years old were loose. No, this cable proves they're still as strong as the day they were built. It fits snugly and stays there. It is built to last and made from high quality materials. Aesthetically it's great. I think basically I was expecting cheap metal plastic. No, the body of the connector is actually metal on both sides. It is light in weight, which makes it more robust. The existing gray connectors are a bit darker than the metal body of the white iPad, but overall the cable certainly fits. Black is straight black, looks best with a black iPhone in my opinion, but gray doesn't look bad either. (I didn't buy the gold one.) I've never had a problem charging my iPad or iPhone with this cable. Works great with all my adapters and devices. As for the cable's actual ability to transfer data, I used it to control my iPad as a secondary display for my computer. I have not encountered any issues with this compared to other cables including the Apple cable and the Wal-Mart cable. A 30-pin connector with the manufacturer's logo printed on the back and the dock connector icon on the front. This is an amazing cord and I can understand their pride in making such a wonderful product. But one thing I love about my Apple devices is that when I'm using them I don't have to look at the bezel with brand names and logos plastered all over it. To be clear, the dock connector icon doesn't appear on the cable at all, so it doesn't seem like they've done anything terribly wrong in terms of usability. The IMKEY logo serves as a great indicator that you've actually installed the right side up, and it's by no means bright or flashy. What really sets this cable apart is its durability, build quality, and aesthetics. Nothing else I've seen even comes close.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • New competition is here
