An old shirt will feel smaller than a fitted polo with the hem reaching all the way up.
I ordered a size 18 for my slim 16 year old figure. old - the shirt seems smaller than a tight-fitting polo, and the hem comes down to the hem of his jeans. It might wear out for a season, which is a little disappointing.
