Okay Shane for buying this shelf. First, it's made of 1/2 inch particle board, which isn't as strong as wood, and if you screw in screws, you're more likely to remove the screw right away unless you're standing perfectly straight. Side and chip off the fake veneer. I can't imagine putting any weight on the shelves as they are only held together with 4 screws and a couple of 1/2" nails. I wasn't expecting much for $42 but you can get this quality at the major department stores for a lot less. What a waste of money. Spend a little more and get something that will hold some weight.
