Review on ToughBuilt - 2-In-1 Ultra-Lightweight Knee Pads With Removable Outer-Shell - (TB-KP-101) by Brian Barnes

Decent For Light To Moderate Use. Not Ideal For Heavy Duty Construction

⁃ I bought these 2 in 1 knee pads for house cleaning and general work around the house. ⁃ These knee pads are decent for activities such as house cleaning, maybe gardening, low-level home improvement and construction. They are not built for the professional contractor who intends to use them daily, for a long period of time. If you plan on using them daily as a professional, plan on replacing them at regular intervals. Don’t have high/unrealistic expectations for these. You are better off getting contractor-style knee pads. ⁃ Each knee pad comes in 2 separate pieces. The outer piece is an opaque hard plastic piece that covers the outer remainder of the knee pad made with black foam. ⁃ The outer plastic piece slides in and out of the Velcro straps that are embedded into the black foam part of the knee pad. ⁃ When you kneel with the hard plastic part on, especially on hard surfaces, it feels a bit awkward and doesn’t feel too stable as it is also curved. Maybe if the plastic cover had a flat front surface, then maybe they would be more stable. The function of the plastic part is to prevent the marring of the black foam pad. ⁃ Since the plastic part is hard, there is a likelihood of scratching/marring soft and/or sensitive surfaces. ⁃ When you use the black foam pads by themselves (after removing the plastic cover) the pads feel comfortable enough for one to use without subjecting the knees to pain. They definitely provide adequate cushion for yours truly, a mid-sized man of about 180 pounds give and take. The foam feels softer than the material of the regular knee pads found in the home improvement stores, if softness is what you are looking for. ⁃ The black foam knee pads (when used by themselves) are soft and will not scour/mar/scratch any surface they are used on. ⁃ The Velcro straps are long enough for an average leg/thigh/calf but they don’t have any extensions. If you have very large calves, then these straps might not be long enough to strap the knee pads to your knees/legs. ⁃ Since the plastic part of the knee pads is a hard type of plastic, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was also brittle. Be gentle while kneeling so as not to break the plastic part. ⁃ The hardness of the plastic part of the knee pads also means that you can’t use them for long periods of time. If you are going to spend all day on your knees and intend to use them with the plastic covers, then these knee pads are not ideal. Get the knee pads with gel instead. If you intend to use the black foam parts only, then you can use them for a longer time but have to adjust the Velcro straps to avoid discomfort. ⁃ Just like all kneepads with only 1 Velcro strap, if you strap them ‘tightly’ to your legs so that they cannot slide/fall out, they will cause discomfort on the side the Velcro strap rests on after a while, say after one (1) hour. To alleviate this discomfort, you have to adjust the strap slightly. ⁃ I knew beforehand that I was getting them for general use around the house, so I am happy with them.

Pros
  • I like these knee pads because their very comfortable
Cons
  • The inner padding may compress over time and lose effectiveness
