First, people say that sockets aren't deep enough for regular plugs. If you look at the video the customer took that supposedly confirms, it looks like she's barely pushing the fork. I've been using APC strips for years and some of their models are very tight to begin with, you just have to push them in hard enough. As for the circuit failure after a power surge, that's definitely a problem. I've never had a problem with this, knock on wood and live in an area with a very active storm season. My personal experience is that the APC works well and this one I bought seems to be made the same as the others I've bought.
