Review on Philips SHE7000BK 28 Ear Headphones by Dustin Mitchell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

An atavistic fear of anonymous, deep-breathing phone calls

Giving these in-ear headphones 4 or 5 stars is a dilemma. There are 3 sizes of ear canal adapters, which attracted me to this product because I want the smallest size and I'm not a music lover. These earbuds fit so well that they don't let through a lot of outside noise, but they do pick up the vibrations of the bones in my head. This is how I hear my own breath. This problem is not the "fault" of the headphones, nothing can be done about it. So it's probably not fair of me to berate the product for it. Hearing myself breathing isn't too distracting, other than the atavistic fear of anonymous phone calls from deep breathing. But if I train or pant for other reasons ;-), it can distract from the "music". (Sometimes I watch videos or listen to the radio or audiobooks.) There are no controls at all on the headphones themselves (which isn't a bad thing considering the cheap price point). So if I don't adjust the computer's tonal balance, websites and recordings that are broadcast in stereo will be heard in stereo and those that aren't will not. Those who have left and right channels out of order need to smack their admins over the head. Oh, these headphones are "soft" in the sense that the only hard things are the interface plug and the speakers. I can comfortably wear them to bed to listen to the radio/CD/iPod, but that's true for all in-ear headphones (as opposed to over-ear headphones, so no big thanks for that).
