Review on Bambo Nature Baby Diapers Classic, Size 1 (4-9 lbs), 28 Count: Eco-Friendly Diapers for Newborns by Jorge Gutierrez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Still a great daytime diaper but not for long wear or heavy hydration

I have been a dedicated user of Bambo diapers since I discovered them 6 months ago. I love them for the same reasons everyone else loves them: absolutely superior quality (super absorbent, feels dry on the inside, no breakouts), industry-leading in chemical and odor-free (I personally hate the smell of Pampers, esp after getting them wet ) etc. When the new diapers came out a month ago I was stunned by my first trial pack, especially after reading all the negative reviews. So here are the facts about the changes:* The new diapers are thinner and lighter (1 ounce vs. 1.4 ounces in size 4). Bambo claims that they improved and redistributed the internal absorbent material within the diaper, allowing them to make a thinner diaper without sacrificing effectiveness. Size 4 still fits my 21 month old 25lb 31" great with plenty of room to grow, but if your child is at the top of the weight range you may need to go up a size. *The manufacturer reports that their manufacturing process is more environmentally friendly , less waste etc.* Price has gone up temporarily (hence MOST of the negative reviews for this new product) but is now back to $0.33 -0.34 for a diaper with S&S I think most of the negative reviews here's a knee-jerk reaction to the fact that the product has changed (I don't think anyone likes the change and Bambo wasn't very good at explaining the benefits/reasons) and also because of the price (which isn't a relevant consideration anymore). Some However, reviews also mention lower absorbency and/or some drooping/gaping around the legs causing leakage. In the beginning (the first few weeks after we started to use new diapers), I noticed a noticeable difference in performance. often during the day (after a wet episode or two at most) so I haven't noticed any problems. However, after a few months of using these diapers, I have come to the conclusion that the absorbency is actually not what it used to be. These new diapers often feel wet on the inside, and there was a night or two when my son peed through the diaper, soaking his clothes and sleeping bag. I just found an old unused Bambo of the same size and tested it overnight and it didn't have the same problem (it felt dry in the mornings) so there was definitely a change in performance. I still think these are great daytime nappies - our favorites from all we've tried (Pampers, Earths Best, Naty, 7 wet or the kids still feed at night. If you often keep the nappies on for several hours during the day, this diaper may not be right for you. I'm very frustrated with this as I don't know of any other absorbent alternative for us that doesn't have that stinky chemical smell. If I find anything good I'll update this review. Please share, if you have any suggestion for me!Another tiny PS - Bambos has a wetness indicator, but it really needs improvement. It consists of blue letters written along the entire length of the diaper that "spread" or "smear" when wet " should be, but are barely noticeable in my opinion. If this is an important feature for you, this diaper may not be right for you r you. ------------- UPDATE 14/1: We reduced the size to a 4+ (although my son is only 26lbs). , well within the size range of 4) and this seems to have fixed the leak problem. His diapers still feel slightly damp in the morning (after 11am) but I haven't noticed any problems with rashes so we keep using them. So if your child is leaking, you should have them checked out. Although this may not be enough for children with sensitive skin who need a product that really locks in all the moisture. -------------- UPDATE 4/14: I have contacted the manufacturer via their Facebook page to ask if they plan to address performance complaints in a new version of their diapers. Below was her answer. So even if you've concluded that Bambo isn't the right choice for your family right now, you might want to come back later this year to see if they fixed the problem! We are concerned about your management concerns and are doing what we can. Overall, we're very happy with the changes, but agree that not everything is perfect. Expect some improvements in the coming months. Thanks for your understanding." ------------ UPDATE 3/15: Our tiny tot just turned 3 years old (30lbs) is now potty trained but still has size at night 5 Bambo Now that he only wets his diaper once, twice a night at most (and sometimes it's completely dry), they're great for us and I'm very happy we can still use them (as they're less toxic etc ).Not sure if Bambo changed the design or not but we have no issues now.I am pregnant now and planning to buy them again for our second child - will update if and when we have issues with again have leaks :) Happy finding the perfect diaper for your family :)
