I'm a jack of all trades. This is the fifth dog door I have installed. I bought it for the price and the reviews, but obviously I didn't read or watch the installation videos well enough. I would never buy it again and plan on returning it. My first 4 doors were the aluminum version and I made a terrible mistake trying to save some money. DO WHAT I SAY, NOT LIKE ME! This is absolutely the WORST design I have ever dealt with. I hope this was done by a freshman who was fired immediately afterwards. Not very durable; made entirely of lightweight plastic, so obviously offers no security. There is no lock on the lid like the aluminum version.2. Instructions include a template to cut out and stick onto the door. However, the hole you create is large and doesn't leave much space between the door cutout and the frame of the plastic surrounds.3. Make sure you have enough sealant - black for the horizontal flat gaskets and white around the frame.4. Not very secure - the plastic frame, which breaks easily, and the lid, which just snaps in, is easily knocked off even by my dog trying to get in. 5. Difficult to install. Plastic parts intended to cover the open area between the inner and outer sections are difficult to attach. Also, they are NOT waterproof AT ALL, so you need to make sure the door is fully protected from rain and wind. And I would cover all the grout otherwise the water will flow into the door and possibly ruin it.6. The "folding door" is anything but airtight. While a magnet on the bottom keeps out a light breeze, it won't keep out the weather when there's more than a light breeze. Also, there is no sealing on the left or right side like the aluminum frame version.7. The 3-inch bolts that hold the two halves together are plastic, so they flex easily and are certainly far from secure. First thing I did was go to the hardware store and buy stainless steel screws and bolts. Enough skinned on it. You see I wouldn't buy it again. In fact I already bought the aluminum version and am planning to install it in the same hole, *** or flood. The aluminum version is a bit more expensive but MUCH better in all respects.
