7980xe was bought for a 4k editing desktop that originally had a 7820x so I already had a work platform. The 7980xe came in a sealed container but would not boot after installation, just booting up for a split second and rebooting. Replaced 7980xe with 7820x to make sure it works properly, updated BIOS to make sure it's not the problem. After reinstalling the 7980xe I found that the IHS was weakened (impossible unless tampered with) and after searching the web I found that the chip was too small for the 7980xe. You can tell from the thermal paste outline on the IHS that there is a large and a small outline of the two chips. Be very careful when buying higher tier options. Sellers are wary of returns that appear to be sealed.
