This splitter has all I/O connected together, it is not a switch or hub that can be used to tie multiple components to a single router or cable connection. If you know what you're doing, you can use it to separate individual signals from one cable to two sources, which is what I did. I have a cable with 2 pairs of DSL connections from an ISP and 2 pairs for 100Base. -T on a CAT5 cable. I've used this to make custom cables that split the DSL to the modem and the other goes to my home phone lines where it connects to 100Base-T so my office computer around the house can connect directly to the switch. My house wasn't connected to CAT5 or 6 so this is my only option for a wired connection unless I'm using MoCa or similar adapters. I've tried Ethernet over stream but it's just not reliable. If you're smart, you can use it to combine two 100Base-T connections into a single CAT5/6 cable, and then split it again elsewhere so both devices are connected to your router. You just need to make the cables right so that pins 1/2 and 3/6 are paired on each end. You can't get two Gigabit Ethernet connections with this device, at least not with standard cables or components. Edit: I've attached my house wiring diagram in case anyone wants to do something like me. All of my phone lines are daisy-chained (connected in boxes, I removed the phone jacks from the chain) in each room and I only have one jack for my computer at the end of the line. 100Base-T is only supposed to work up to 300 feet, but it's worth a try. You have to force your network card to stay at 100 Mbit/s, otherwise it will not recognize the connection to the switch, this is done in the properties of your network adapter.
