When zooming out, the lens image no longer covers the entire sensor, so large black corners remain in the image at maximum wide-angle. There's also significant fisheye distortion that doesn't go away when you zoom in. Even at the extreme end of the zoom, the straight lines are still noticeably round. I was also hoping that the larger sensor would be more sensitive to light than my laptop's webcam. However, it turned out to be less sensitive and required a much longer gain/exposure time (resulting in noise and motion blur) to achieve the same brightness.
