Louder than expected
This device definitely makes a sustained, high-pitched buzzing sound. I use it in a 14ft x 20ft room with a standard ceiling height and can hear the audio from the sofa on the opposite side of the room on the TV when it's set to medium volume. You get used to it over time and the TV can drown it out, but only at high volume.
