Some of these reviews confuse me. I don't think people read descriptions before buying. 38mm or larger for standard industrial piercings. There is a framework above the ear. That's what some people still call industrial, but most people need 36mm or less to perfectly fit the top. For pain relief I reduced my 14g to 16g. It's great since the caliber size got smaller. It hurts less. This listing is for 16g and yes it is a thinner caliber. Don't get pierced or buy jewelry unless you know how to measure or what size you want or need. Explore a little.
