The original tires are firmly glued and attached to the inner layer through the holes. It took me several hours to cut and scrape them with a sharp knife. I also used a thick glove to avoid cutting myself. I scraped off as much of the old rubber as I could to fit the new ones into the groove. If I weren't retired, extremely patient and listening to happy music, I would have given up and bought whole spare wheels. Since spare tires simply slide up and go into the groove, they are easier to replace when worn out.
