I actually used this on a dumbbell rack at the gym that had a slightly sharp edge that could damage my rubber dumbbells on impact. The thickness is actually 0.15 inches (I measured with vernier calipers) and the product says it will fit up to 0.078 inches. I decided to take a chance. It fits wonderfully! One thing I didn't understand from the product description or the pictures is that there is segmented metal inside (I'm assuming steel). The segments appear to be about 1/4 inch wide and are placed side by side. I suspect this gives it a good grip but also allows it to flex. Anyway, I cut it with kitchen scissors, which worked. but the blades may have dulled, in hindsight I would have used metal shears.
