Took the matte black and went with the red 2013 JK Unlimited. Matte isn't quite matte like a primer, but it's not glossy like plastic either. I haven't used tape and they haven't moved in 2 months. Put them in right away after I've cleaned the grilling area well. They definitely improve the looks and have not had any issues with engine temp, heat distortion or popping. When installing, I recommend doing the outer ones first, then moving on to the middle one and making sure you feel the tab click into place.
