So let's start with some quick facts/disclaimers: This is my very first Razer product, I didn't really know what to expect other than signing up, to use it products as well as online friends, so at the same time I had high expectations. I don't have a gaming PC, so I can't capitalize on its potential for attraction. I only bought it for aesthetic reasons to be honest as most of my gaming/computer stuff is already black and pink I thought they would match and they had nice lights. Now that it isn't, let's get to the hack. I read a lot of reviews asking if this needs to be plugged into a computer or if I can just plug it into my wall. Almost everyone said I can stick it in the wall IT IS NOT TRUE. It MUST be 100% connected to the computer to even work which was frustrating for me as I wanted it next to my bed where I keep my headphones but now I had to move them around so that was a HUGE disappointment . I thought I had a defective item until I dug some more and found that it only works when plugged into a computer, which makes sense given the brand. such a feeling, but I've never done it on a headphone stand. It only works when your computer is on. So if you're going to use it to charge something or keep the lights on at 100% on your computer, I think putting the USB ports on the front will make your setup look like a mess. but it doesn't really matter to me as I don't really intend to use them except here and there. Speaking of USB. USB 5V from a PC does not "fast" charge anything, so if you plan to use a phone charger or something else for gadgets, this is not the best option. It'll still charge, but not as fast as almost anything that plugs directly into an outlet, or anything designed to be charged by lightning. As soon as you connect it to your computer it will start downloading the software which as I said is my first Razer product that I'm not familiar with. know how it all works. I just wanted to be able to control the lights and it took me forever to figure out which of the 10 programs it really was. I love how customizable it can be, you can use their color chart or create your own, it can create different lighting effects like breathing, gradient, static, match your music, starlight etc so I was impressed. You must register your product and create an account for it to save your lighting settings or it will keep resetting. When your computer is off, the light goes off, which is nice because I was discreetly concerned that it would always be on when I was trying to sleep. Overall I think it's worth $50? Absolutely not, but I'm paying for the brand and I understood that when I bought it. For me it's 100% fun. I was just a little disappointed with the price paid for what it offered. UPDATE 2021: 1 year later! As I write this, I half-cringe at my original review. Yes, I still enjoy it 100% and it was my first Razer product. Now I have almost the entire Quartz line (Huntsman, Basilisk, Kraken, Kitty BT). As a seasoned PC gamer, now that I have a gaming PC and stream on Twitch I know a lot more about the technology and should have realized first that Razer is a PC so it would only make sense if this only worked on plugged into the PC but for those who don't know that much about the specs it will come as a shock because like I said initially I asked if I could just plug this into a USB box in my wall and it was told me I could and that's a lie. The Synapse software has been greatly improved since my original purchase and you DO NOT NEED any other programs unless you really program your colors, which I don't really do. If you just want to edit colors, all you need is Synapse. Overall, I still wouldn't buy this for face value, but it ties the whole setup together.
