I saw the California cancer warning on the packaging and started researching and found an article about toxic hand blenders. They tested 12 brands and found a leak of carcinogenic material from Braun. It's not that model, but there's no text on the Braun website to say that this model is leak-free. Philips customer service page had relevant information and they say they have no leak in any of their models. According to the article, the Philips model (old model) was also one of the 4 safe brands. In the end I decided not to return it without opening the box. I don't care how well it works if it's toxic.
