Password sharing suitable for external SSDs

I know the passcode but it seems I didn't follow the correct procedure and got locked out. It will presumably lock you out after several tries (I think 15 is the magic number). I tried 3 times. The leaflet that came with it does NOT mention how to solve this problem so I had to search the internet for an answer and email someone in England to help me clear the blockage. I can't unlock it instead of resetting it so I smashed it up and threw it away.
