Review on IGaging ABSOLUTE Digital Electronic Caliper by Eric Garron

I bought this caliper and the compatible USB interface at the same time (see "iGaging SPC USB Cable for OriginCal 100-700 Series" for very positive comments) The caliper itself comes in a rugged, reusable storage unit with the battery installed and a spare battery in the case. The caliper fit and finish is above average with no loose or ill-fitting parts. The test measurements were accurate and reproducible. Before using this type of instrument, you know what's best when they're not doing anything unique or creative. This caliper works smoothly, all buttons feel the same, the display is clear and smooth. The model I bought also included a simple attachment that allows for a stable depth reading. The instructions were clear and fully explained various features (purists can't complain about the quality of the translation). Also included was a NIST-traceable Calibration Test Certificate, which is unusual for this price point. Aside from the obvious quality, the main reason I chose this product is that all the reviews I've read say the "average battery life" reviews aren't advertising. . The problem with many of these products is that even when they're off, they only dim the display, but still use power and can kill those tiny expensive button cells in a week. The OriginCal series uses the much more common CR2032 coin cell battery, and other reviewers have reported a lifespan of a year or more (instructions state 2 years with typical use). Of course, actual battery life depends most on how often you use the caliper. I did a lot of research before buying because I was convinced I had to spend $300-$500 to get what I wanted. I even contacted the manufacturer by phone and was quickly put through to someone who could answer technical questions. So far this product is everything I hoped it would be and more.
