I have several different types of peppers (my wife gave me some). I've found that the denser peppercorns grind well in these grinders, but the lighter ones (pink and red) just seem to move inside the grinder, avoiding being "pulled" into the granulator. The solution for me was to mix some black peppercorns with some red peppercorns to keep them in the cutting area. They are also good for coarse salt. I find that some of the caps don't snap in place to cover the tips. One of them absolutely doesn't snap and the other goes in but pulls out very easily. I just make sure to hold the top with my hand when I pick them up so they don't fall to the ground. Overall I like these, but I'll probably try a different kind next time.
