I bought a similar American leash about half a year ago. It was hard when I received it but softened very quickly with daily use. The problem I had was that the hardware that attaches to the leash was so loose that it kept opening and I found that the dog was no longer tied to the leash. I bought it because it had the features I wanted and it was made in America. This leash was made in China but I have to say it is MUCH better made. The leather was soft out of the box, and the hardware was very sturdy and locked tight. It is woven in such a way that no seams or rivets can come loose and fall apart. I am very happy with it.
