Lifeguard! I've been looking for this solution for literally months and in the process have become a true audio/video fanatic. Here's the deal: Situation: You have a 2006 Bose Companion 3 that still sounds and works great. To keep the Bose system as my movie/TV sound source, I simply browsed media through my laptop connected to my Samsung Smart TV. I finally have a Fire TV Stick for all of the great display capabilities, but for now I want to keep my Bose for the sound. Problem: The Bose Companion 3 is designed primarily as a computer speaker that connects via a 3.5mm jack, and the Samsung Smart TV does not have headphones. outlet (thanks, Samsung). There's a 3.5mm audio out, but it's not analog, meaning there's no way to adjust the volume when I connect a Bose. I've found digital to analog audio converters but now the problem is that the only way to control volume on the Bose Companion Series is with a control box that plugs into a subwoofer. So I still have to figure out a way to get a remote for my lazy self to control the volume from my couch (it's America damn it!). I've read about some IR remote configurations, but it was all pretty tedious. Solution: THIS DEVICE. It is so easy! Connect one end of the included cable to your device and the other end to your TV's digital audio output. Connect the Bose 3.5mm auxiliary cable to the device. Use the included remote to control the volume to your heart's content! It's very small, which is good since it doesn't take up much space. The only downside is that the green and red LEDs on the front are awfully bright when they're on. The image I attached is incorrect. I wrapped them in duct tape. Also, I found out that the remote control cannot be replaced separately. Therefore, if you lose it, you will have to buy the whole package again.
