My old receiver died because the brand it belonged to had this horrible DtS chip fault. In fact, it got so hot that the solder points on the DTS chip came loose. Long story short, I replaced my receiver with a much better device that costs a bit more. I just added this to see if there is a difference. That's how it is. Without a fan, my new receiver runs at about a 90-degree angle on the top of the case. With the fan on, it never warms up more than a few degrees above room temperature. The fan turns on and off depending on the settings I give it and makes almost no noise even at maximum speed. At medium speed I honestly can't hear it at all. I argued about buying a bigger device, but I rolled the dice and was glad I did. Unless you're using something that generates a lot of heat, this option will get the job done just fine.
