Review on πŸ“‡ PenPower WorldCard Pro: Advanced Business Card Scanner for Win/Mac by Drew Poulin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It works quite well and is in no way inferior to modern optical character recognition technologies.

I was looking for a business card scanner to digitize my card collection. Based on my experience (see below) I knew there would be no perfect scanner and I had to find the best one available. I've tried a few now and this is the best so far. It was easy to set up, works as it should, and has minimal bugs. Setup: Setup is pretty easy and straightforward. Install (and activate) the included software, connect the scanner, calibrate it and start scanning cards. No OCR technology is perfect, so it's important to check the data after it's scanned to make sure it's correct. I know it's not perfect, but there is (and probably never will be) OCR software that is 100% accurate. Reason for 5 Stars: It's very rare that I give 5 stars to a product that doesn't work 100% of the time, but here's why. I am very familiar with the OCR technologies and software available in the market and none of them will be perfect. This isn't a software bug, it's the images you scan. It needs to be a crystal clear image with no images or fancy fonts to get the perfect read. After testing several different business card readers, this one is by far the best and most reliable. This is the best of the best (though not perfect) and deserves 5 stars (I'm open to comments with your thoughts on giving 5 stars to a product that isn't perfect but is the best of its kind). My Experience: I work as a Data Consultant, handling high volume supplier invoices (up to hundreds of thousands on some projects) and performing Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to convert images into searchable text documents. I've spent countless days researching the best available OCR software for my business and the best of them still isn't that great. It's not always the software's fault, most of the time it's low-quality images that are difficult to interpret (zeros and zeros are often confused, etc.). It's crazy to think that in 2016 there still isn't a reliable way to turn images into text-searchable documents, but hey, we're doing our best. For this reason, before buying it, I knew that if the business card is not white, does not contain images and does not use a very simple font, it probably has some errors. Overall I am very happy with this scanner. It's the best I've tried so far and it does the job well. Although I have to make some corrections from time to time, I still save a lot of time compared to manually typing a business card. If you're looking to buy a business card scanner, I highly recommend it. All OCR programs have limitations, but this one works best and has the fewest errors. Writing detailed reviews to help other buyers has become my hobby. If you found this review helpful, please mark it as helpful below.
