I love every other product I've ever bought from Cable Matters but not the Thunderbolt 3 Multiport Adapter about a week ago, and I even threw away some good cables this week, thinking the problem might be with the cable. While the USB port works well, the HDMI port causes the external display to flicker on complex images, and the Ethernet port only works 50% of the time. All in all a great idea, but unreliable. I was surprised to find out that Cable Matters let QC slip through like that. After starting the Revain return process and looking for a replacement, I found an identical looking device from another well-known brand with negative reviews for the display and ethernet connectivity. I suspect Cable Matters is stuck with these inferior OEM products. I think going forward I'll just stick with their cables as I see they do it best.
