I was able to connect to a 60 GHz network from my Netgear R9000 and got a strong signal of over 3 Gbps and a very fast transfer rate. However, there must be a line of sight between the receiver and the router. Because of the antenna, even the position relative to the router matters. Obviously, this technology is intended to be used by devices in the same room with very specific use cases that require high-speed data transmission. You can see why it didn't take off. Just a note for those who have a Netgear R9000 and are using MAC based access restrictions. They do not apply correctly to 60 GHz. I was only able to connect properly after disabling MAC address filtering.
