Instructions followed exactly. I boiled the water before putting the eggs in it. I boiled the eggs for 11 minutes, removed them from the pot I had cooked them in and placed them in ice water for 5 minutes, filling the shaker cup as directed with just enough water to cover the rim at the bottom of the unit to cover. Lay it upside down and shake it up and down about 12 times. Make sure the egg touches both the top and bottom of the object. I poured the water out of the block and pulled out the egg, it looked a bit messy but when I pulled the shell out of the egg it came off easily without damaging the egg. Worked great for me the first time.
