Review on 🔪 Smith's Jiffy-Pro Handheld Sharpener 50185 in Vibrant Orange by Steve Lawrence

Pleased with the quality of sharpening scissors and knives.

I had modest expectations as I usually sharpen my woodworking tools and knives with diamond stones and it is MUCH cheaper. But I didn't like sharpening scissors, so I gave it a try. It has worked well to date, bringing some of the old "as dumb as can be" scissors back to life, and has also worked well with a few pairs that have already been used. pretty good shape. As for the knife sharpening feature, it works quite well unless you just need or want the highest quality blade. The results were more than adequate for a pocket knife and I also sharpened a couple of dull kitchen knives. Some knives only needed a few pulls with the sharp edge, but it also worked well on others that needed a bit of rough edge work first. It is easy to use and suitable for both left-handed and right-handed users. Just make sure you're using the correct side depending on the orientation of your scissors (it's clearly marked, I just didn't pay attention to the first pull). Despite being made entirely of plastic, the sharpener feels solid. The black rubber gives you the grip you need and while I'm not a backpacker I think the plastic handle/clip mechanism combined with the sticky black rubber keeps it where you want it, even on the outside of a backpack or when buckled. other equipment. My only (small) complaint is that you feel a bit awkward when sharpening the scissors. Assuming you are holding the scissors in your right hand, as you would expect a right-handed person to be, you should be holding the sharpener in your left hand, ie holding the "leg" with the sharpening mechanism during use. It feels like it would be perfect if the left-handed and right-handed configuration were reversed. However, it only took a few hits to get the hang of it and not that many to finish the job. I am happy with the purchase and my wife loves it too. She was a little afraid to sharpen scissors or knives, but with this tool she feels safe. We would recommend it to others who don't need a surgical edge. I suspect I'll be using it more often on all of our scissors and almost all of our knives.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Not all will fit
