I have been using this radar detector for over a year now. This is the best detector in this price range. Be sure to read the instructions completely as some lanes need to be activated in city mode. The laser warning went off a couple of times (the alarm will actually get your attention) but with the laser you're probably in an accident once you get the signal. The emergency vehicle alert works, but not many emergency vehicles have the transponder needed to activate the alert. My detector has proven to be very durable, it seems that sometimes it gets very hot under the scorching sun, but it has never let me down. Sometimes it's difficult to see the screen in bright light, but the audible alerts make up for it. I like the voice alerts because they tell you what type of radar it's picking up so you don't have to look at the device to find out. Eventually, he spotted each of the types of radar advertised, and each of them had a different sound signal. Intellimute is a nice feature. I don't use a compass. I look forward to the day when I can buy an expensive detector and do a comparison, but in general I would say if you pay close attention to the settings and remember what a radar detector is. maybe not for you, this is a good choice for the money.
