I ended up buying two new tape measures to complete my 10+ years. Tape measure Old Craftsman 20 feet for use in the shop. FastCap Lefty Righty and Tajima 16ft models. Both have a 7/8" thick blade (wider than the Craftsman) that can stick out 8 feet. Both models are white with black lines (except that the 1/16 marks on the FastCap are red. While I used the FastCap Like markings, Tajima's accuracy, tested on a 36" Starrett steel ruler, is even comparable to an accuracy of 1/32" in contrast to FastCap, which is nearly 1/16" on the 24" marker moved (it started correcting itself as I got further away but never returned to the marker) Both bands make hooking the hook to the board more difficult as they have a bumper that prevents the tab from going over the end of the tape sticks out. The springs in both tapes are more than enough to pull them back into the case. Both also have a shock-resistant rubber case. If I want to transfer measurements from a tape measure to a steel ruler, or if several people need measurements, then... i st Tajima a clear winner. ” back and forth (due to its size, I only use Powerlock for building). like big print because my eyes aren't the same as they were 20 years ago. The tape is also just as accurate when the tab is pressed against the wall. For clearing my stock quickly or when I'm alone in the store, it's good to use FastCap. This comes in handy on a miter saw, and the left/right side allows me to take measurements from both ends and still read the numbers up. It's also nice not to remember if the minor string was a 9/16 or 11/16. The FastCap also has a small lever on the bottom that prevents the band from retracting, but I'm so used to using my index finger against the body of the band that I never use it. I'm afraid the same goes for pencil sharpeners. It's easier for me to just take a pocket knife and sharpen the point than remembering that the sharpener is built into the tape measure.
