Got a new fully automatic espresso machine, so I wanted to test our water for scale-causing hardness. This company seems to make a decent range of counters at a reasonable price. Therefore, this meter is designed for testing water filtered from a faucet and refrigerator, mainly because it can be calibrated if necessary. There seems to be some fakes advertising the same name so you need to be careful to verify the seller. Turns out our water is moderately hard and I found that fridge filters don't filter dissolved solids very well, the fridge filter only lowered the TDS by 10-20ppm, they seem more designed to handle potentially harmful chemicals and biological ones to remove substances. We ultimately settled on purchasing the zero water jug that comes with the budget version of this meter. The Zerowater filter is designed to eliminate TDS. It was nice to see both counters showing the same thing: 120-130 on the tap and zero on the jug. At the moment this is a very inexpensive and accurate device.
