I really dislike shoes of all kinds. I have a narrow heel and wide forefoot due to bursitis. And low arches and low rise. These shoes are like a gift from the gods. They fit and are comfortable. I bought this particular shoe because it is recognized as one of the best brands for pronation control. That's why I've been having troubles with my knees lately. The shoes helped. If you are a runner I can't help you much since those days are over. I can say I don't think you will feel this way if that is what you need. I think they would be better for beginners, runners or someone heavier. However, I am active, walking and working out in the gym and they are very good for that. In terms of size, I usually wear a 9th width. I took the advice of other reviewers and ordered a 9 1/2 wide. You are exactly right. A few words about shoelaces: They stay tight once you tie them. Either the shoe or the laces have a texture that seems to hold them in place. I appreciate it especially because of my narrow ankles.
