Didn't even know there was such a kitchen tool (I usually work with a home cook). . . But after meeting friends and seeing a stick of butter being used - I MUST have had it soft too (even if it's a single working dish!). Place the butter on a hard surface, paper seam side up, and open the butter wrapper so the stick is still on the wrapper. Push the slicer all the way in, then with the casing still attached to your butter scoop, turn the slicer and butter over and use your fingers against the casing to finish the sliced butter through the slicer - clean and easy!
